Tümgeneral Mehmet Sıtkı ÜKE 1877 yılında Selânik’te doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1899 yılında teğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. Eğitimine devam ederek 7 Ocak 1900’de istihkâm üsteğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 27 Nisan 1910’da binbaşılığa terfi etti ve piyade sınıfına geçti. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. Trablusgarp Savaşı’na katıldı. 16 Mayıs 1914’te 6’ncı Kolordu 26’ncı Tümen 76’ncı Nizamiye Alayı Komutanlığına atandı. Bu görevindeyken Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na girildi. 29 Kasım 1914’te yarbaylığa terfi etti. 1915 yılında Şile’de bulunan Depo Taburları komutanı, aynı yıl 47’nci Tümen 147’nci Alay komutanı olarak atandı. 1916 yılında Kafkas Cephesi’nde Ruslarla yapılan muharebelere katıldı. 1917 yılının başında yeniden 147’nci Alay komutanı, 7 Nisan 1917’de 8’inci Tümen 24’üncü Alay komutanı, 18 Mart 1918’de 15’inci Alay komutanı olarak atandı. 30 Ekim 1918’de İngilizler tarafından esir edildi ve 11 Mayıs 1920’de esaretten döndü. 11 Ocak 1921’de Anadolu’ya geçerek Millî Mücadele’ye katıldı ve 24’üncü Piyade Tümeni komutanı olarak tayin edildi. 1 Mart 1921’de albaylığa terfi etti ve aynı tarihte 11’inci Piyade Tümeni Komutanlığına atandı. 19 Ağustos 1921’de 8’inci Tümen komutanı, 2 Kasım 1921’de Cebel-i Bereket Bölge komutanı, 20 Mayıs 1922’de Adana ve Havalisi komutanı oldu. Büyük Zafer sonrası 1 Mart 1923’te 4’üncü Tümen Komutanlığına,
2 Ocak 1927’de 2’nci Tümen Komutanlığına atandı. 30 Ağustos 1927’de tümgeneralliğe terfi etti. 4 Haziran 1928’de 8’inci Tümen komutanı olarak atandı; bu görevinde iken 16 Nisan 1935’te kendi isteğiyle emekli oldu. Sivil yaşamında, V ve VI. Dönem Seçimlerinde Tokat’tan milletvekili seçildi. Osmanlı Devleti ve Alman İmparatorluğu tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Tümgeneral Mehmet Sıtkı ÜKE, 22 Ekim 1941’de vefat etmiştir.

Major General Mehmet Sıtkı ÜKE was born in Thessaloniki in 1877. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1899 with the rank of lieutenant. He continued his education and graduated on January 7, 1900, with the rank of corps of engineers first lieutenant. He was promoted to major on April 27, 1910 and changed to the infantry corps. He served in various echelons in the army until 1911. He participated in the Turco Italian War. On May 16, 1914, he was appointed as the Commander of the 6th Corps, 26th Division, 76th Nizamiye (Regular) Regiment. While he was on this duty, the First World War was entered. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 29, 1914. In 1915, he was appointed as the commander of the Depot Battalions in Şile, as the commander of the 147th Regiment of the 47th Division in the same year. In 1916, he participated in the battles with the Russians on the Caucasian Front. At the beginning of 1917, he was appointed as the commander of the 147th Regiment again, as the commander of the 24th Regiment of the 8th Division on April 7, 1917, and as the commander of the 15th Regiment on March 18, 1918. He was captured by the British on October 30, 1918 and returned from captivity on May 11, 1920. On January 11, 1921, he went to Anatolia and participated in the War of Independence and was appointed as the commander of the 24th Infantry Division. He was promoted to colonel on March 1, 1921 and was appointed as the Commander of the 11th Infantry Division on the same date. He became the commander of the 8th Division on August 19, 1921, the Cebel-i Bereket Region commander on November 2, 1921, and the commander of Adana and its vicinity on May 20, 1922. After the Great Victory, he was appointed as the 4th Division Commander on March 1, 1923, and as the 2nd Division Commander on January 2, 1927. He was promoted to major general on August 30, 1927. He was appointed as the commander of the 8th Division on June 4, 1928; while he was on this duty, he retired voluntarily on April 16, 1935. In his civilian life, he was elected as a deputy from Tokat in the V. and VI. Term Elections. Major General Mehmet Sıtkı ÜKE, who was the owner of various decorations and medals given by the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire and the Medal of Independence given by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), passed away on October 22, 1941.
