OSMAN ZATİ KOROL
1880-1946
Tümgeneral Osman Zati KOROL 1880 yılında İzmir’de doğdu. Mühendishane-i Berri Hümayundan 1905 yılında üsteğmen, devam ettiği Harp Akademisinden 1907 yılında kurmay yüzbaşı olarak mezun oldu. 12 Ekim 1909’da kurmay kıdemli yüzbaşılığa terfi etti. 1912 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. 14 Aralık 1911’de 13’üncü Tümen kurmay başkanı oldu ve bu görevindeyken Balkan Savaşı’na girildi. Daha sonra Balkan Savaşı’nda 25 Haziran 1913’te Fatih Tümeni kurmay başkanı yardımcısı olarak görev aldı, müteakiben Levazım Dairesi Nakliye Şubesi müdürü olarak atandı. Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nda Akdeniz (Çanakkale) Boğazı Müstahkem Mevki Komutanlığı kurmayı olarak görev yaparken 14 Haziran 1915’te kurmay binbaşılığa terfi etti. 28 Nisan 1920’de Muamelatı Zatiye Dairesi emrine alındı. 12 Aralık 1920’de İnebolu üzerinden Ankara’ya gelerek Millî Mücadele’ye katıldı. Millî Mücadele’de 19 Aralık 1920’de Ankara Komutanlığı Kurmay Başkanlığına atandı. 1 Mart 1921’de kurmay yarbaylığa terfi etti ve aynı tarihte 1’inci Tümen Piyade Tugay Komutanlığına tayin edildi. 25 Ağustos 1921’de 1’inci Süvari Tümen komutanı, 27 Ekim 1921’de Batı Cephesi Komutanlığı kurmay yarbaşkanı oldu. 31 Ağustos 1922’de kurmay albaylığa yükseldi. Büyük Zafer’den sonra 20 Kasım 1922’de MSB Harbiye Dairesi başkanı, 10 Ekim 1924’te 3’üncü Kafkas Tümeni komutanı, 2 Nisan 1925’te Askerî Fabrikalar genel müdürü olarak atandı. 30 Ağustos 1927’de tümgeneralliğe terfi eden KOROL, 27 Ocak 1932’de Fen ve Sanat genel müdürü, 15 Mart 1934’te Kars Müstahkem Mevki komutanı, 11 Ekim 1935’te Genelkurmay Harp Tarihi Encümeni başkanı, 20 Temmuz 1936’da Askerî Yargıtay üyesi olarak görev yaptı. 27 Temmuz 1938’de emekli oldu. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Tümgeneral Osman Zati KOROL, 21 Eylül 1946’da vefat etmiştir.
Major General Osman Zati KOROL was born in İzmir in 1880. He graduated from the Imperial School of Military Engineering (Mühendishane-i Berrî-i Hümâyûn) as a first lieutenant in 1905, and from the War College, where he attended, as a staff captain in 1907. On October 12, 1909, he was promoted to staff lieutenant commander. He served in various echelons in the army until 1912. He became the chief of staff of the 13th Division on December 14, 1911, and while he was on this duty, the Balkan War was entered. Later, during the Balkan War, he served as the deputy chief of staff of the Fatih Division on June 25, 1913, and was subsequently appointed as the director of the Transportation Branch of the Office of the Quartermaster General. While serving as the staff officer of the Dardanelles Strait Fortified Site Command during the First World War, he was promoted to staff major on June 14, 1915. On April 28, 1920, he was placed under the command of the Department of Personnel. He came to Ankara via İnebolu on December 12, 1920 and participated in the War of Independence. He was appointed as the Chief of Staff of Ankara Command on December 19, 1920 during the War of Independence. He was promoted to staff lieutenant colonel on March 1, 1921, and he was appointed to the 1st Division Infantry Brigade Command on the same date. He became the commander of the 1st Cavalry Division on August 25, 1921, and the deputy chief of staff of the Western Front Command on October 27, 1921. He was promoted to staff colonel on August 31, 1922. After the Great Victory, he was appointed as the Head of the MND War Department on November 20, 1922, the commander of the 3rd Caucasus Division on October 10, 1924, and the general director of Military Factories on April 2, 1925. KOROL, who was promoted to major general on August 30, 1927, served as the general director of Science and Arts on January 27, 1932, as the commander of the Kars Fortified Area on March 15, 1934, as the chairman of the General Staff War History Committee on October 11, 1935, and as a member of the Military Supreme Court on July 20, 1936. He retired on July 27, 1938. Major General Osman Zati KOROL, who was the owner of various decorations and medals given by the Ottoman Empire and the Medal of Independence given by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), passed away on September 21, 1946.
