MÜRSEL BAKÜ
1881-1945
Tümgeneral Mürsel BAKÜ 1881 yılında Erzurum’da doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1901 yılında teğmen, devam ettiği Harp Akademisinden 1904 yılında mümtaz yüzbaşı olarak mezun oldu. 1910 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. 15 Eylül 1910’da mesleki eğitim ve öğrenim için Almanya’ya gönderildi. 27 Nisan 1911’de binbaşılığa terfi eden BAKÜ, 25 Eylül 1912’de Almanya’dan döndü. 12 Ekim 1912’de Bağdat’a gitti; daha sonra 4’üncü Ordu Müfettişliği Kurmay Heyetinde görev aldı. Balkan Savaşı’na katıldı. 8 Aralık 1913’te 39’uncu Süvari Alay komutanı oldu. 20 Ocak 1914’te 11’inci Süvari Tugay Komutanlığına getirildi ve bu görevinde iken Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na girildi. 24 Aralık 1914’te yarbaylığa yükseldi. 5 Ocak 1915’te 34’üncü Piyade Tümen komutanı, 7 Ocak 1915’te 2’nci Tümen komutanı,
21 Nisan 1916’da 32’nci Tümen komutanı, 23 Aralık 1916’da 12’nci Piyade Tümen komutanı, 29 Ocak 1918’de 5’inci Kafkas Tümen komutanı olarak atandı. 28 Temmuz 1918’de albaylığa terfi etti. 21 Nisan 1919’da Batum’da İngilizler tarafından esir edildi. Batum, Çanakkale ve Malta’da 26 ay tutuklu kaldı. 1 Kasım 1921’de esaretten döndü. 24 Kasım 1921’de 6’ncı Süvari Tümen komutanı, 1 Mayıs 1922’de 1’inci Süvari Tümen komutanı oldu ve bu görevindeyken Şeyh Sait İsyanı’nın bastırılmasında görev aldı. 31 Ağustos 1922’de tümgeneralliğe terfi eden BAKÜ, 31 Ekim 1924’te 7’nci Kolordu Komutan Vekilliğine, 5 Eylül 1925’te 2’nci Süvari Tümen Komutanlığına,
11 Şubat 1931’de Süvari Müfettişliğine atandı. 8 Nisan 1936’da 23’üncü Tümen Komutanlığına, 1 Ağustos 1938’de Askerî Yargıtay üyeliğine getirildi. Bu görevinde iken 23 Ağustos 1938’de emekliye ayrıldı. Sivil yaşamında 1943-1945 yılları arasında Kocaeli milletvekilliği yaptı. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Tümgeneral Mürsel BAKÜ, 2 Şubat 1945’te vefat etmiştir.
Major General Mürsel BAKÜ was born in Erzurum in 1881. He graduated from the Military Academy as a lieutenant in 1901, and from the War College as a distinguished captain in 1904. He served in varied positions in the army until 1910. He was sent to Germany for professional education and training on September 15, 1910. BAKU promoted to major on April 27, 1911 turned back from Germany on September 25, 1912. He went to Baghdad on October 12, 1912, and later served in General Staff of the 4th Army Inspectorate. He participated in Balkan War. He became the commander of the 39th Cavalry Regiment on December 8, 1913. He was assigned as the commander of the 11th Cavalry Brigade on January 20, 1914, and during his duty the First World War was entered. He was promoted to rank of lieutenant colonel on December 24, 1914. He was appointed as the commander of the 34th Infantry Division on January 5, 1915; the commander of the 2nd Division on January 7, 1915; the commander of the 32nd Division on April 21, 1916; the commander of the 12th Infantry Division on December 23, 1916; the commander of the 5th Caucasus Division on January 29, 1918. He was promoted to the rank of colonel on July 28, 1918. He was captured by the British in Batumi on April 21, 1919. He was kept in captive in Batumi, Çanakkale and Malta for 26 months and was free on November 1, 1921. He became the commander of the 6th Cavalry Division on November 24, 1921 and the commander of the 1st Cavalry Division on May 1, 1922. While on this duty, he took part in suppression of Sheikh Said Rebellion. Promoted to the rank of major general on August 31, 1922 BAKU, was appointed as the deputy commander of the 7th Corps on October 31, 1924 and appointed to the 2nd Cavalry Division Command on September 5, 1925; to Cavalry Inspectorate on February 11, 1931. He was assigned as the commander of the 23rd Division on April 8, 1936, as a member of Military Court of Appeals on August 1, 1938. While on this duty, he retired on August 23, 1938. In his civilian life, he served as the deputy for Kocaeli between 1943 and 1945. Major General Mursel BAKU who had various decorations and medals decorated by the Ottoman Empire as well as the Independence Medal decorated by Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), passed away on February 2, 1945.
