Kurmay Yarbay Mahmut Nedim HENDEK 1880 yılında Kafkasya’da doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1901 yılında teğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 22 Temmuz 1908’de üsteğmenliğe, 27 Nisan 1911’de yüzbaşılığa terfi etti. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. 27 Nisan 1911’de 36’ncı Aşiret Süvari Alayı 2’nci Bölük Komutanlığına atandı. 15 Kasım 1911’de 2’nci Aşiret Süvari Alayı 4’üncü Bölük Komutanlığına tayin edildi ve bu görevinde iken kurmaylık öğrenimine başladı. 23 Temmuz 1914’te Harp Akademisinden mezun oldu. 3 Ağustos 1914’te 2’nci Ordu Başyaverliğine getirildi. 29 Kasım 1914’te kıdemli yüzbaşılığa yükseldi 2’nci Orduda başyaver iken Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na girildi. (Kurmaylığı 12 Nisan 1915’te onaylandı.) 16 Nisan 1915’te 4’üncü Kolordu Kurmay Heyetinde görevlendirildi. 30 Eylül 1915’te 4’üncü Ordu 41’inci Tümen Kurmaylığına atandı. 31 Ekim 1915’te piyade sınıfına geçirildi. 1 Mart 1916’da kurmay binbaşılığa terfi etti. 17 Nisan 1917’de 3’üncü Süvari Tümeni kurmay başkanı oldu. 12 Mayıs 1918’de kurmay yarbaylığa terfi eden HENDEK, 31 Mayıs 1919’da 12’nci Kolordu Kurmay Başkanlığına, 30 Temmuz 1919’da 24’üncü Tümen Komutanlığına atandı. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Kurmay Yarbay Mahmut Nedim HENDEK, Hendek Harekâtı’nda 21 Nisan 1920’de şehit olmuştur.
Staff Lieutenant Colonel Mahmut Nedim HENDEK was born in the Caucasus in 1880. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1901 with the rank of lieutenant. He was promoted to first lieutenant on July 22, 1908, and to captain on April 27, 1911. He served in various echelons in the army until 1911. On April 27, 1911, he was appointed as the Commander of the 2nd Company of the 36th Tribal Cavalry Regiment. On November 15, 1911, he was appointed as the Commander of the 4th Company of the 2nd Tribal Cavalry Regiment, and while he was on this duty, he started his staff training. He graduated from the War College on July 23, 1914. On August 3, 1914, he was appointed as the Aide-de-Camp in Chief of the 2nd Army. He was promoted to lieutenant commander on November 29, 1914. While he was the Aide-de-Camp in Chief in the 2nd Army, the First World War was entered. (His staff position was approved on April 12, 1915.) He was appointed to the 4th Corps Staff Committee on April 16, 1915. On September 30, 1915, he was appointed as the 41st Division Staff Officer of the 4th Army. He was transferred to the infantry corps on October 31, 1915. He was promoted to staff major on March 1, 1916. On April 17, 1917, he became the chief of staff of the 3rd Cavalry Division. HENDEK, who was promoted to staff lieutenant colonel on May 12, 1918, was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the 12th Corps on May 31, 1919, and Commander of the 24th Division on July 30, 1919. Staff Lieutenant Colonel Mahmut Nedim HENDEK, who was the owner of various decorations and medals given by the Ottoman Empire and the Medal of Independence given by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), died a martyr in the Hendek Operation on April 21, 1920.
