6’NCI CUMHURBAŞKANIMIZ FAHRİ SABİT KORUTÜRK 1903 yılında İstanbul’da doğdu. Heybeliada Bahriye Mektebindeki tahsilini takiben 1923 yılında güverte mühendis (teğmen) rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 1 Mart 1923- 15 Ekim 1924 tarihleri arasında Hamidiye ve Yavuz gemilerinde tahsil ve staj gördü. Çeşitli gemilerde görev yaptıktan sonra, 1931 yılında girdiği Deniz Harp Akademisini 1933 yılında bitirerek kurmay subay oldu. Muhtelif gemi ve karargâh görevleri ile Roma ve Berlin Deniz Ataşeliklerinde bulundu. 1950 yılında tuğamiralliğe terfi etti. Tuğamiral rütbesi ile İstanbul Deniz Komutanlığı ve Denizaltı Filosu Komutanlığı yaptı. 1953 yılında tümamiralliğe yükseldi ve tümamiral rütbesi ile Harp Filosu Komutanlığı, Deniz Eğitim Komutanlığı, Genelkurmay İstihbarat Başkanlığı görevlerinde bulundu. 1956 yılında koramiral oldu. Bu rütbe ile Donanma Komutanlığı, Boğazlar ve Marmara Deniz Kolordu Komutanlığı görevlerinde bulundu.13 Aralık 1957 tarihinde Deniz Kuvvetleri komutan vekilliğine atandı. Bu görevde iken 1958 yılında oramiralliğe terfi etti. 17 Kasım 1959 tarihinde Deniz Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı görevine başladı. 2 Temmuz 1960 tarihinde emekli oldu. Emeklilik döneminde Cumhuriyet Senatosunda Kontenjan Senatörlüğü ve 1973-1980 yılları arasında Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin 6. Cumhurbaşkanlığını yaptı. Oramiral Fahri Sabit KORUTÜRK, 12 Ekim 1987 tarihinde vefat etmiştir.

The sixth President of the Republic of Türkiye, Fahri Sabit KORUTÜRK, was born in İstanbul in 1903. Following his education at the Heybeliada Naval Academy, in 1923, as a deck engineer (Lieutenant), and served his internship period on board the Hamidiye and Yavuz armored ships between March 1, 1923 and October 15, 1924. Having been assigned various active duties in the Turkish Naval Command, he entered the Naval War College in 1931 and graduated in 1933 as a staff officer. Serving on board various elements and headquarters of the Naval Command and as a Naval Attaché in Rome and Berlin, KORUTÜRK was promoted to Commodore in 1950 and brought to the command of the İstanbul Naval Command and Submarine Fleet Command. Having been promoted to Rear Admiral in 1953, he served as the Commander of the War Fleet, Naval Training Command, and Chief of Intelligence at the Turkish General Staff. He became a vice-admiral in 1956 and served as the Fleet Commander, and the Straits and the Marmara Naval Corps. On December 13, 1957, he was appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces. While in this position, he was promoted to admiral in 1958. On November 17, 1959, he began his duty as the Commander of the Turkish Naval Forces. He retired on July 2, 1960. During his retirement, he served as a contingent senator in the Senate of the Republic, was elected the sixth President of the Republic of Türkiye in 1973, and served as President until 1980. Admiral Fahri Sabit KORUTÜK passed away on October 12, 1987.
