Kurmay Albay Ethem Servet BORAL 1876 yılında Kafkasya’da doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1899 yılında teğmen, devam ettiği Harp Akademisinden 1902 yılında mümtaz yüzbaşı olarak mezun oldu. 4 Ağustos 1907’de kıdemli yüzbaşı oldu. (Kurmaylığı 28 Mart 1911’de onaylanmıştır.) 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. 24 Nisan 1911’de 6’ncı Manastır Kolordusu Kurmaylığı 1’inci Şubeye atanan BORAL, 27 Nisan 1911’de kurmay binbaşılığa terfi etti. 4 Haziran 1911’de Yunan Hudut Komiserliğine, 8 Mayıs 1912’de Debre Mutasarrıflığına, 31 Ağustos 1912’de tekrar Yunan Hudut Komiserliğine, 29 Eylül 1912’de 8’inci Mürettep Kolordu Kurmaylığına atandı. Bu göreviyle Balkan Savaşı’na katıldı. 8 Ocak 1914’te 8’inci Kolordu 25’inci Nizamiye Tümeni Kurmaylığına, 7 Eylül 1914’te 8’inci Kolordu 79’uncu Alay Komutanlığına, 29 Eylül 1914’te 8’inci Mürettep Kolordu Kurmaylığına, daha sonra 27’nci Tümen Komutanlığına getirildi. 23 Eylül 1915’te kurmay yarbay oldu. 27 Mayıs 1916’da 41’inci Tümen komutanı, 25 Ocak 1917’de Harbiye Nezareti (Millî Savunma Bakanlığı) İhracat Şubesi müdürü olarak atandı. 3 Şubat 1917’de 1’inci Tümen Kurmaylığına tayin edildi. 8 Şubat 1919’da Askerî Temyiz Mahkemesi başkanı olarak atandı. Aynı zamanda 1’inci Dönem TBMM üyesi olarak görev yaptı. 1 Temmuz 1920’de Anadolu’ya geçerek Millî Mücadele’ye katıldı. 17 Temmuz 1920’de MSB Satın Alma Komisyonu başkanı, 19 Kasım 1920’de Levazımat-ı Umumiye başkanı, 30 Ocak 1921’de MSB Teftiş Kurulu başkanı olarak görev yaptı. 1 Mart 1921’de kurmay albaylığa terfi eden BORAL, 19 Mayıs 1921’de 2’nci Süvari Tümeni komutanı, 25 Eylül 1921’de MSB Teftiş Dairesi başkanı, 10 Ağustos 1922’de Askerî Yargıtay üyesi, 26 Ağustos 1928’de Coğrafya Encümeni üyesi olarak atandı. 25 Şubat 1931’de emekli oldu. Osmanlı Devleti ve Alman İmparatorluğu tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Kurmay Albay Ethem Servet BORAL, 21 Eylül 1956’da vefat etmiştir.
Staff Colonel Ethem Servet BORAL was born in the Caucasus in 1876. He graduated from the Military Academy as a lieutenant in 1899, and from the War College, where he attended, as a distinguished captain in 1902. He became lieutenant commander on August 4, 1907. (His staff position was approved on March 28, 1911.) He served in various echelons of the army until 1911. BORAL, who was appointed to the 1st Branch of the 6th Monastir Corps Staff on April 24, 1911, was promoted to staff major on April 27, 1911. He was appointed as the Greek Border Commissioner on June 4, 1911, as the mutasarrif (governor of an Ottoman province) of Debar on May 8, 1912, as the Greek Border Commissioner again on August 31, 1912, and as the 8th Dispositional Corps Staff Officer on September 29, 1912. On this duty, he participated in the Balkan War. He was appointed as the 8th Corps 25th Nizamiye (Regular) Division Staff Officer on January 8, 1914, as the 8th Corps 79th Regiment Commander on September 7, 1914, as the 8th Dispositional Corps Staff Officer on September 29, 1914, and later as the 27th Division Commander. He became staff lieutenant colonel on September 23, 1915. He was appointed as the commander of the 41st Division on May 27, 1916, and as the director of the Export Branch of the Ministry of War (Ministry of National Defence) on January 25, 1917. He was appointed as the 1st Division Staff Officer on February 3, 1917. He was appointed as the president of the Military Court of Appeals on February 8, 1919. He also served as a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in the 1st Term. He went to Anatolia on July 1, 1920 and participated in the War of Independence. He served as the chairman of the Ministry of National Defence Purchasing Commission on July 17, 1920, as the chairman of the Office of Quartermaster General on November 19, 1920, and as the chairman of the Ministry of National Defence Inspection Board on January 30, 1921. BORAL, who was promoted to staff colonel on March 1, 1921, was appointed as the commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division on May 19, 1921, as the head of the Ministry of National Defence Inspection Department on September 25, 1921, as a member of the Military Court of Appeals on August 10, 1922, and as a member of the Geographical Council on August 26, 1928. He retired on February 25, 1931. Staff Colonel Ethem Servet BORAL, who was the owner of various decorations and medals given by the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire and the Medal of Independence given by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), passed away on September 21, 1956.
