CEMİL CAHİT TOYDEMİR
1883-1956
Orgeneral Cemil Cahit TOYDEMİR 1883 yılında İstanbul’da doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1902 yılında teğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. 15 Haziran 1909’da yüzbaşılığa terfi etti. Bu rütbe ile Trablusgarp ve Balkan Savaşlarına katıldı. Nisan 1914’te Sivas 3’üncü Numune Tabur komutanı oldu ve bu görevinde iken Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na girildi. 8 Ocak 1915’te binbaşılığa terfi etti. Şubat 1915’te 53’üncü Alay komutanı, Mart 1916’da 33’üncü Tümen komutan vekili, Temmuz 1916’da Kafkas Cephesi’nde 25’inci Alay komutanı oldu. 28 Temmuz 1918’de yarbaylığa terfi ederek Ağustos 1918’de 1’inci Kafkas Tümen komutanı yapıldı. 15 Temmuz 1919’da Samsun’a çıkarak Anadolu’ya geçti ve 5’inci Kafkas Tümeni Komutanlığına atandı. 12 Eylül 1921’de albaylığa terfi etti. 21 Ocak 1922’de 10’uncu Tümen komutanı, 18 Ekim 1922’de Tümen komutanı yetkisiyle Jandarma 1’inci Bölge komutanı, 31 Ekim 1923’te 41’inci Tümen komutanı, 14 Şubat 1926’da 11’inci Tümen komutanı olarak görev yaptı. 30 Ağustos 1927’de tümgeneralliğe terfi eden TOYDEMİR, 18 Ocak 1932’de Millî Savunma Bakanlığı kara müsteşarı, 1 Ocak 1933’te 5’inci Kolordu komutanı oldu ve 30 Ağustos 1933’te korgeneralliğe terfi etti. 6 Nisan 1936’da Askerî Yargıtay II. Başkanlığına, 12 Ocak 1939’da Jandarma Genel Komutanlığına, 13 Temmuz 1940’ta 20’nci Kolordu Komutanlığına getirildi. 30 Ağustos 1942’de orgeneralliğe yükseldi ve aynı tarihte Askerî Yargıtay başkanlığına getirildi. 17 Aralık 1943’te 1’inci Ordu komutanı oldu ve 15 Haziran 1946’da emekliye ayrıldı. Sivil yaşamında VIII. Dönem (1946-1950) İstanbul milletvekili ve aynı dönemde bir süre Millî Savunma bakanı olarak hizmet etti. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası ve takdirname sahibi olan Orgeneral Cemil Cahit TOYDEMİR, 15 Temmuz 1956’da vefat etmiştir.
General Cemil Cahit TOYDEMİR was born in Istanbul in 1883. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1902 with the rank of lieutenant. He served at various levels of the army until 1911. He was promoted to captain on June 15, 1909. With this rank, he participated in the Tripolitan and Balkan Wars. In April 1914, he became the commander of the 3rd Exemplary Battalion in Sivas, and while in this position, the First World War broke out. On January 8, 1915, he was promoted to major. In February 1915, he was appointed commander of the 53rd Regiment; in March 1916, commander of the 33rd Division; and in July 1916, commander of the 25th Regiment on the Caucasian Front. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 28, 1918, and was given the command of the 1st Caucasian Division in August 1918. On July 15, 1919, he landed in Samsun and went to Anatolia, where he was appointed the commander of the 5th Caucasian Division. On September 12, 1921, he was promoted to colonel. He served as the commander of the 10th Division on January 21, 1922; the commander of the 1st District of the Gendarmerie with the authority of the Division Commander on October 18, 1922; the commander of the 41st Division on October 31, 1923; and the commander of the 11th Division on February 14, 1926. Promoted to major general on August 30, 1927, he became the undersecretary of the Ministry of National Defense on January 18, 1932, the commander of the 5th Army Corps on January 1, 1933, and was promoted to lieutenant general on August 30, 1933. On April 6, 1936, he was appointed as the Second President of the Military Court of Cassation, on January 12, 1939, as the General Commander of the Gendarmerie, and on July 13, 1940, as the Commander of the 20th Army Corps. He was promoted to general on August 30, 1942, and on the same date he was appointed president of the Military Court of Cassation. He became commander of the 1st Army on December 17, 1943, and retired on June 15, 1946. In his civilian life, he served as Member of Parliament representing Istanbul during the VIIIth Term Parliament (1946–1950), and as the Minister of National Defense for a short term. General Cemil Cahit TOYDEMİR, who was conferred various orders and medals by the Ottoman State; and the Independence Medal and commendation by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, passed away on July 15, 1956, in İstanbul.
