AKİF ERDEMGİL
1876-1962
Tümgeneral Akif ERDEMGİL 1876 yılında Debre’de doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1896’da teğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 26 Nisan 1898’de üsteğmenliğe, 14 Nisan 1909’da yüzbaşılığa, 27 Nisan 1911’de binbaşılığa terfi etti. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. Trablusgarp Savaşı’nda 15 Kasım 1911’de 21’inci Aşiret Süvari Alayı komutanı, 3 Temmuz 1912’de Basra Jandarma Alayı komutanı olarak görev yaptı. 17 Ocak 1914’te 3’üncü Süvari Alayı komutanı olarak atandı. Bu göreviyle Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na katıldı ve Irak Cephesi’ndeki muharebelere katıldı. 14 Eylül 1915’te yarbaylığa terfi etti ve müteakiben
1 Aralık 1915’te 6’ncı Ordu Irak Süvari Tugayı Komutanlığı, 17 Mayıs 1918’de Kafkas Süvari Tümeni Komutanlığına atandı. 17 Haziran 1919’da 3’üncü Ordu 10’uncu Kolordu Askerlik Daire başkan vekili, 1 Aralık 1919’da 2’nci Piyade Tümen komutanı oldu. 1 Mart 1921’de albay olan ERDEMGİL, 16 Kasım 1921’de Elcezire Cephesi komutan vekili oldu. 1 Ağustos 1922’de Batı Cephesi Komutanlığı emrine atandı. Büyük Zafer’den sonra, 4 Kasım 1922’de Mürettep 3’üncü Süvari Tümeni komutanı, 15 Ağustos 1923’te 6’ncı Tümen komutanı,
30 Haziran 1924’te İstanbul MSB Komisyon başkanı olarak atandı. 30 Ağustos 1927’de tümgeneralliğe terfi etti. 20 Ekim 1927’de 14’üncü Süvari Tümeni komutanı, 15 Ocak 1932’de 2’nci Süvari Tümeni komutanı, 26 Kasım 1934’te Askerî Yargıtay üyesi oldu. 16 Aralık 1935’te Askerî Yargıtay üyesi iken emekliye ayrıldı. Sivil yaşamında TBMM’nin V ve VI. dönemlerinde Sivas milletvekili olarak görev yaptı. Osmanlı Devleti tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası ve takdirname sahibi olan Tümgeneral Akif ERDEMGİL,
22 Mart 1962’de vefat etmiştir.
Major General Akif ERDEMGİL was born in Debar in 1876. He graduated from the Military Academy with the rank of lieutenant in 1896. He was promoted to first lieutenant on April 26, 1898, to captain on April 14, 1909, to major on April 27, 1911. He served in various echelons in the army until 1911. He served as the commander of the 21st Tribal Cavalry Regiment in the Turco Italian War on November 15, 1911, and as the commander of the Basra Gendarmerie Regiment on July 3, 1912. He was appointed as the commander of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment on January 17, 1914. With this duty, he participated in the First World War and participated in the battles on the Iraqi Front. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on September 14, 1915, and was subsequently appointed as the Commander of the 6th Army Iraqi Cavalry Brigade on December 1, 1915, and as the Commander of the Caucasian Cavalry Division on May 17, 1918. On June 17, 1919, he became the deputy head of the 3rd Army 10th Corps Department of Recruitment, and on December 1, 1919, he became the 2nd Infantry Division commander. ERDEMGİL, who became a colonel on March 1, 1921, became the acting commander of the Al Jazeera Front on November 16, 1921. He was appointed to the command of the Western Front Command on August 1, 1922. After the Great Victory, he was appointed as the commander of the Dispositional 3rd Cavalry Division on November 4, 1922, as the commander of the 6th Division on August 15, 1923, and as the head of the İstanbul Commission of the Ministry of National Defence on June 30, 1924. He was promoted to major general on August 30, 1927. He became the commander of the 14th Cavalry Division on October 20, 1927, the commander of the 2nd Cavalry Division on January 15, 1932, and a member of the Military Supreme Court on November 26, 1934. He retired on December 16, 1935, while he was a member of the Military Supreme Court. In his civilian life, he served as a deputy for Sivas in the V. and VI. terms of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA/TBMM). Major General Akif ERDEMGİL, who was the owner of various decorations and medals given by the Ottoman Empire and the War of Independence Medal and letter of appreciation given by the TGNA, passed away on March 22,1962.
