7’NCİ CUMHURBAŞKANIMIZ Ahmet Kenan EVREN 1918 yılında Manisa / Alaşehir’de doğdu. 1938 yılında Kara Harp Okulundan, 1940 yılında Topçu Okulundan mezun oldu. 1946 yılına kadar Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanlığına bağlı çeşitli birliklerde takım ve bölük komutanlığı yaptı. 1949 yılında Harp Akademisini kurmay subay olarak bitirdikten sonra 28’inci Tümen Topçu Alayında Batarya Komutanlığı, Genelkurmay Eğitim Daire Başkanlığı emrinde Proje Subaylığı, 33’üncü Tümen Topçu Komutanlığında Tabur Komutanlığı, 1’inci Ordu Harekât Başkanı Yardımcılığı, Kara Harp Akademisinde öğretim üyeliği, 9’uncu Kore Türk Tugayı Harekât Eğitim Şube Müdürlüğü ve Kurmay Başkanlığı, Ordu Donatım Okulu Kurmay Başkanlığı, 2’nci Ordu Harekât Eğitim Başkanlığı, 227’nci Piyade Alay Komutanlığı ve 9’uncu Kolordu Kurmay Başkanlığı görevlerini yürüttü. 1963 yılında tuğgeneralliğe terfi etti. Tuğgeneral rütbesi ile Kara Kuvvetleri Okullar Daire Başkanlığı yaptı. 1966 yılında tümgeneralliğe yükseldi. Tümgeneral rütbesi ile 58’inci Er Eğitim Tümen Komutanlığı ve 2’nci Ordu Kurmay Başkanlığı görevlerinde bulundu. 1970 yılında korgeneral oldu. Korgeneral rütbesi ile 2’nci Kolordu Komutanlığı, Kara Kuvvetleri Denetleme Kurulu Başkanlığı ve Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı Kurmay Başkanlığı görevlerinde bulunduktan sonra 1974 yılında orgeneralliğe terfi etti. Orgeneral rütbesinde Kara Kuvvetleri Kurmay Başkanlığı, Genelkurmay II. Başkanlığı, Ege Ordu Komutanlığı, Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı görevlerini yürüttü. 7 Mart 1978 tarihinde Genelkurmay Başkanlığına atandı. 1 Temmuz 1983 tarihinde kendi isteği ile emekli oldu. 1983-1990 yılları arasında Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin 7’nci Cumhurbaşkanı olarak görev yaptı. TSK Üstün Hizmet Madalyası, TSK Altın Şeref Madalyası ile ABD Liyakat Madalyası sahibi olan Kenan EVREN, 9 Mayıs 2015 tarihinde vefat etmiştir.

The seventh President of the Republic of Türkiye, Ahmet Kenan EVREN, was born in Alaşehir, Manisa, in 1918. He graduated from the Turkish Military Academy in 1938 and from the Artillery School in 1940. He served as platoon and company commander in the various units of the Turkish Land Forces Command. Having graduated from the Land War College as a staff officer in 1949, he was respectively assigned as the Battery Commander in the 28th Division Artillery Regiment, Project Officer at the Turkish General Staff Training Department, Battalion Commander in the 33rd Division Artillery Command, Deputy Chief of Operations of the 1st Army, Lecturer at the Turkish Military Academy, Director of the Operations Training Branch of the 9th Korean Turkish Brigade and Chief of Staff, Chief of Staff of the Army Ordnance School, 2nd Army Operations Training Directorate,  Commander of the 227th Infantry Regiment, and Chief of Staff of the 9th Army Corps until his promotion to brigadier general in 1963. He was then appointed as the Chief of the Turkish Land Forces Department for Schools. Having been promoted to major general in 1966, he served as the commander of the 58th Training Division and the 2nd Army Chief of Staff. Following his promotion to lieutenant general in 1970, EVREN served as the Commander of the 2nd Corps, Chief of the Turkish Land Forces Supervisory Council, and Turkish Land Forces Command Chief of Staff until his promotion to general in 1974. At the rank of General, he served as Turkish Land Forces Chief of Staff, Second Chief of the Turkish General Staff, Aegean Army Commander, and Turkish Land Forces Commander. On March 7, 1978, he was appointed Chief of the Turkish General Staff. He retired voluntarily on July 1, 1983. Between 1983 and 1990, he served as the seventh President of the Republic of Turkiye. Kenan EVREN, who was conferred the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal, the Turkish Armed Forces Gold Medal of Honor, and the US Medal of Merit, passed away on May 9, 2015.
