Korgeneral Ahmet DERVİŞ 1886 yılında Selânik’te doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1906 yılında teğmen, devam ettiği Harp Akademisinden 1909 yılında mümtaz yüzbaşı olarak mezun oldu. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. Trablusgarp Savaşı’na katıldı. Balkan Savaşı’nda 16 Mart 1913’te Yanya Muharebesi’nde Yunanlara esir düştü. 2 Aralık 1913’te 22’nci Hicaz Tümeni Kurmaylığında ve birliklerinde görev aldı. 30 Mayıs 1914’te binbaşılığa terfi eden (Kurmaylığı 24 Mayıs 1916’da onaylandı.) Ahmet Derviş, Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na Hicaz Tümeni Kurmayında ve birliklerindeki göreviyle başladıktan sonra 8 Temmuz 1915’te 22’nci Hicaz Tümeni kurmay başkanı oldu. 5 Temmuz 1917’de Hicaz Tümeni kurmay başkanı iken 22’nci Nişancı Taburu ve 28’inci Alay 1’inci Taburu ile Taif Kalesi’ni savunurken esir düştü ve Mekke, Mısır ve Malta’da esarette bulunduktan sonra 9 Ocak 1920’de esaretten döndü. 26 Ocak 1920’de Anadolu’ya geçerek Millî Mücadele’ye katıldı ve 61’inci Tümen Kurmay Başkanlığına atandı. Eylül 1920’de 1’inci Süvari Grup Komutanlığına getirilen Ahmet Derviş, 10 Ocak 1921’de kurmay yarbaylığa yükseldi. 10 Ağustos 1921’de 7’nci Tümen komutanı, 22 Ekim 1921’de 11’inci Tümen komutanı, 30 Ocak 1922’de Levazımat-ı Umumiye Dairesi başkanı, 16 Temmuz 1922’de Askerî Okullar müfettişi, 1 Ağustos 1922’de tekrar 11’inci Tümen komutanı oldu. 31 Ağustos 1922’de kurmay albaylığa terfi etti. 30 Aralık 1922’de Tümen Komutanlığı yetkisiyle İstanbul Merkez komutanı, 2 Ekim 1923’te Bursa’da Heyet-i Mahsusa (Özel Askerî Mahkeme) başkanı, 2 Ocak 1924’te 1’inci Tümen komutanı, 9 Haziran 1925’te Berlin askerî ataşesi, 20 Eylül 1925’te 1’inci Kolordu komutan vekili olarak atandı. 30 Ağustos 1926’da tümgeneral oldu ve 10 Şubat 1927’de 1’inci Kolordu Komutanlığına asaleten atandı. 30 Ağustos 1930’da korgeneral olan Ahmet Derviş, 8 Eylül 1930’da Millî Savunma Bakanlığı Müsteşarlığına getirildi. 3 Ocak 1932’de Askerî Yargıtay üyeliğine atandı. Osmanlı ve Afgan devletleri tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası ve takdirname sahibi olan Korgeneral Ahmet Derviş 17 Ocak 1932’de vefat etmiştir.

      Lieutenant General Ahmet DERVIS was born in Salonika in 1886. He graduated from the Military Academy as a lieutenant in 1906, and from the War College as a distinguished captain in 1909. He served in varied positions in the army until 1911. He participated in Turco-Italian War. He was captured by the Greeks in the Battle of Ioannina (Yanya) on March 16, 1913, during the Balkan War. He served in the staff of 22nd Hejaz Division and its units on December 2, 1913. Ahmet Derviş who was promoted to major on May 30, 1914 (his staff position was approved on May 24, 1916), started the First World War with his duty in the staff of the Hejaz Division and its units, and became the chief of staff of the 22nd Hejaz Division on July 8, 1915. On July 5, 1917, during his duty as the chief of staff of the Hejaz Division, he was captured while defending the Taif Castle with the 22nd Marksman Battalion and the 1st Battalion of the 28th Regiment and after being held captive in Mecca, Egypt and Malta he returned on January 9, 1920. He passed to Anatolia and participated in War of Independence on January 26, 1920 and was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the 61st Division. Ahmet Dervis assigned as the Commander of the 1st Cavalry Group in September 1920 was promoted to the rank of staff lieutenant colonel on January 10, 1921. He became commander of the 7th Division on August 10, 1921; the commander of the 11th division on October 22, 1921; the chief of the Office of the Quartermaster (Levazımat-ı Umumiye Dairesi) on January 30, 1922; inspector of Military Schools on July 16, 1922; again the commander of the 11th Division on August 1, 1922. He was promoted to the rank of staff colonel on August 31, 1922. He was appointed as Istanbul Provost Marshall with the capacity of Division Commander on December 30, 1922; as the chief of Heyet-i Mahsusa (Special Military Court) in Bursa on October 2, 1923; as the commander of the 1st Division on January 2, 1924; as the military attaché of Berlin on June 9, 1925; as deputy commander of the 1st Corps on September 20, 1925. He became major general on August 30, 1926 and was principally appointed as the Commander of the 1st Corps on February 10, 1927. Ahmet Dervis who became lieutenant general on August 30, 1930 was assigned as the Undersecretary of the Minister of National Defence on September 8, 1930. He was appointed as the member of Military Court of Appeals on January 3, 1932. Lieutenant General Ahmet Dervis who had various decorations and medals decorated by the Ottoman Empire and Afghanistan as well as the Independence Medal and the letter of appreciation (takdirname) decorated by Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA), passed away on January 17, 1932.
