A. NAFİZ GÜRMAN
1882-1966
Orgeneral Abdurrahman Nafiz GÜRMAN 1882 yılında Bodrum’da doğdu. Harp Okulundan 1903 yılında teğmen, devam ettiği Harp Akademisinden 1906 yılında mümtaz yüzbaşı olarak mezun oldu. 26 Ağustos 1910’da kıdemli yüzbaşı oldu. 1911 yılına kadar ordunun çeşitli kademelerinde görev aldı. Trablusgarp Savaşı ve Balkan Savaşlarına katıldı. 15 Aralık 1913’te binbaşı oldu. (Kurmaylığı 12 Haziran 1915’te onaylandı.) 11 Ocak 1914’te 4’üncü Kolordu 10’uncu Nişancı Taburu komutanı, 21 Mart 1914’te 4’üncü Kolordu Astsubay Numune Taburu komutanı oldu. Daha sonra 6’ncı Kolordu 26’ncı Tümen Kurmaylığına atandı. Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nda 17 Eylül 1916’da Trablusgarp’taki kuvvetlerin Kurmay Başkanlığına atandı. 1 Eylül 1917’de kurmay yarbay olan GÜRMAN, 11 Eylül 1917’de 148’inci Alay komutanı olarak tayin edildi. 8 Mart 1919’da Fransızlar tarafından esir edildi. 20 Mart 1919’da İtalyanlara teslim edildi ve 8 Ekim 1919’da esaretten döndü. 20 Ocak 1920’de 12’nci Kolordu kurmay başkanı oldu. 13 Mayıs 1920’de Personel Dairesi emrine, 1 Haziran 1920’de 1’inci Kolordu Kurmay Başkanlığına getirildi. 8 Şubat 1921’de Antalya’ya gelerek Güney Cephesi emrine girdi. 4 Mayıs 1921’de 1’inci Tümen Komutanlığına getirildi. 12 Eylül 1921’de kurmay albaylığa yükseldi. 18 Ekim 1922’de Refet Paşa Karargâhı kurmay başkanı, 23 Eylül 1923’te İstanbul Merkez komutanı, 8 Kasım 1923’te 2’nci Ordu Müfettişliği kurmay başkanı, daha sonra 4’üncü Kolordu komutan vekili olarak görev yaptı. 30 Ağustos 1926’da tümgeneralliğe terfi etti. 20 Ekim 1927’de 6’ncı Kolordu Komutanlığına atandı. 30 Ağustos 1930’da korgeneralliğe yükseldi ve aynı tarihte 9’uncu Kolordu komutanı oldu. Daha sonra sırayla MSB Müsteşarı 4’üncü Kolordu komutanı, 2’nci Ordu komutan vekili olarak görev yaptı. 30 Ağustos 1940’ta orgeneralliğe yükseldi ve aynı tarihte 2’nci Ordu komutanı, daha sonra Yüksek Askerî Şûra üyesi, 8 Haziran 1949’da Genelkurmay başkanı, 6 Haziran 1950’de tekrar Yüksek Askerî Şûra üyesi olarak tayin edildi. 6 Temmuz 1950’de emekli oldu. Osmanlı Devleti ve Alman İmparatorluğu tarafından verilen çeşitli nişan ve madalyalar ile TBMM tarafından verilen İstiklal Madalyası sahibi olan Orgeneral Abdurrahman Nafiz GÜRMAN, 6 Şubat 1966’da vefat etmiştir.
General Abdurrahman Nafiz GÜRMAN was born in Bodrum, Muğla, in 1882. He graduated from the Military Academy as a lieutenant in 1903 and from the Military Academy in 1906 as a distinguished captain. On August 26, 1910, he became a senior captain. He served at various levels of the army until 1911. He participated in the Battle of Tripolitania and the Balkan Wars. On December 15, 1913, he became a major. (His staff was confirmed on June 12, 1915.) On January 11, 1914, he became commander of the 10th Marksman Battalion of the 4th Army Corps, and on March 21, 1914, he became commander of the Non-Commissioned Officer Sample Battalion of the 4th Corps. He was then assigned to the 6th Army Corps, 26th Division Staff. In the First World War, on September 17, 1916, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the forces in Tripolitania. He became a staff lieutenant colonel on September 1, 1917, and was appointed commander of the 148th Regiment on September 11, 1917. On March 8, 1919, he was taken prisoner by the French, handed over to the Italians on March 20, 1919, and returned from captivity on October 8, 1919. On January 20, 1920, he was appointed 12th Army Corps chief of staff. On May 13, 1920, he was appointed to the command of the Personnel Department, and on June 1, 1920, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 1st Corps. On February 8, 1921, going to Antalya entered the command of the Southern Front. On May 4, 1921, he was appointed commander of the 1st Division. On September 12, 1921, he was promoted to staff colonel. On October 18, 1922, he served as chief of staff of Refet Pasha Headquarters; on September 23, 1923, as Istanbul Provost Marshall; on November 8, 1923, as chief of staff of the 2nd Army Inspectorate; and later as deputy commander of the 4th Army Corps. On August 30, 1926, he was promoted to major general. On October 20, 1927, he was appointed commander of the 6th Army Corps. He was promoted to lieutenant general on August 30, 1930, and became commander of the 9th Corps on the same date. Later, he served as the undersecretary to the Ministry of National Defense, commander of the 4th Corps, and deputy commander of the 2nd Army. He was promoted to the rank of general on August 30, 1940, and was appointed commander of the 2nd Army on the same date; a member of the Supreme Military Council; chief of the General Staff on June 8, 1949; and a member of the Supreme Military Council again on June 6, 1950. He retired on July 6, 1950. General Abdurrahman Nafiz GÜRMAN, who received various orders and medals given by the Ottoman State and the German Empire and the Independence Medal given by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, passed away on February 6, 1966, in İstanbul.
