Dear Colleagues and Comrades in Arms,

Leaders who dominate history of nations, shape their civilization, and enlighten their future are never forgotten and always kept alive in memory of the society they belong to. Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Commander in Chief of the War of Independence and founder of the Republic of Turkey, who is still living in the heart and memory of the Turkish nation with his principles and thoughts, is such a leader.

The great leader Atatürk, whom we are commemorating today with respect and gratitude on the 80th anniversary of his death, commenced the struggle for independence together with the heroic and devoted Turkish people, against the powerful nations of the world who dared to occupy our millenary homeland, stating that “the integrity of country and freedom of nation is in danger. And the freedom of nation could yet be rescued with resolution and determination of the nation”, and declared the republic by founding a state subsequent to that struggle which ended up in victory.

By declaration of republic which is one of the major transformations in the Turkish history, some fundamental and unique changes have been achieved in economic, political and social fields for the purpose of carrying our nation and country beyond the level of contemporary civilization in every field. Such a struggle for existence and change that is undergone in every field by a country which came out of battle and suffered great poverty has also been a source of inspiration for other sufferer and aggrieved nations.

Atatürk, being the symbol of steps taken towards our national solidarity and the struggle for independence and modernity has left the Turkish Republic, which he built on wisdom and science by saying “Our true mentor in life is science”, to the Turkish people.

It is our most important duty to protect the heritage we inherited from first of all from Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms and our ancestors whose deeds and sacrifice we are always proud of and to carry our country into the future in the guidance of wisdom and science and in a way that is worth our ancestors.

The noble Turkish nation, on 15th July, as during the War of Independence, with the strength they take from their national and moral values, showed to the world that they had the will and power to carry our country into the future and how they protected the democracy by fighting shoulder to shoulder, young and old alike as a whole against those who attempted against their independence and future.

The Turkish Armed Forces, with the strength they take from love and confidence of their nation from whose heart they emerged, continue to fight with determination and resolution against all kinds of threats and dangers, mainly terrorist organizations such as FETÖ, PKK/KCK/PYD-YPG and DAESH, aimed against our unity and the Republic of Turkey founded by Atatürk. This fight shall continue until the last terrorist is neutralized.

Therefore, I hereby commemorate once again with mercy and gratitude Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms who carried the determination and resolution of our noble nation into victory, our glorious martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the indivisible integrity of the sacred homeland and for the sovereignty and independence of our noble nation and our brave veterans and all our members who passed away and express my gratitude and respects to our living brave veterans and the dear families of our martyrs and veterans.

Great Atatürk,

Rest in peace.
